Ever wondered what life is like in an African village?
Have you dreamed of studying an indigenous culture at its source?
This summer, join ThisWorldMusic (http://www.thisworldmusic.com) and
UMass Amherst us as we journey to the Dagbe Cultural Center in the
coastal village of Kopeyia, Ghana, where traditions passed down for
centuries are kept alive in their original form:
UMass Drum & Dance Field Study: July 31-Aug. 21, 2009
(Visit: http://www.thisworldmusic.com/UMass_brochure.pdf)
In this 3-week intensive cultural immersion course, students will be
introduced to a wide range of topics related to African culture,
philosophy, and daily life. Led by UMass adjunct faculty member and
ThisWorldMusic Founder Jeremy Cohen, the group will live for 2 weeks
in the Dagbe Center's clean, comfortable, dormitory-style
accommodations, receiving hands-on training from indigenous artists in
drumming, dancing, singing and visual arts. Dagbe's rigorous
instruction and authentic natural surroundings make for an experience
unlike any other.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up today!:
